Cisse’s Two Goals and Two Assists Lift Men’s Soccer to 4-2 Win v. Cazenovia

Canton, NY – Mouhamadou Cisse (Sacre Coeur, Dakar, Senegal) had a hand in all four goals scoring twice and assisting two other goals as the SUNY Canton men's soccer team earned a 4-2 win against visiting Cazenovia College on Wednesday evening.

Five minutes in Mouhammed Thiam (New York, NY) made a huge 1-on-1 save after a SUNY Canton turnover in their defensive zone. The Roos (1-8-1) got on the board first 13:18 in when Cisse played a through ball to Edward Malinoski, Jr. (Evans Mills, NY) who buried his fourth goal of the season past a charging Tom Nicholls.

With 22 minutes to play in the opening half Josh Geller (Monroe, NY) had a great chance off service from Marc Ramirez (La Puente, CA). Nichols made a great initial save and Geller's rebound attempt was blocked by a defender. Just seconds later the Wildcats had an opportunity on the counterattack but Thiam came charging off his line just beating the striker to the ball.

In the 30th minute Angelo Vecchio (Baldwinsville, NY) fed Geller in who stayed just onside. He ripped a shot toward the left post but Nicholls made an impressive save with his right foot as he sprawled out to keep the Roos lead at one. Cazenovia scored off a corner kick in the 37th minute to k not the game at one.

With 1:14 remaining in the opening half the Roos regained the momentum when Cisse ripped a laser from 20 yards out into the left side of the net off passes from Nick Magliano (Farmingville, NY) and Erdous Lebron (San Juan, Puerto Rico). SUNY Canton led 2-1 at intermission.

The Roos had a great opportunity to add to their lead eight minutes into the second half when Kyle Smith (Evans Mills, NY) and Geller executed a nice give-and-go but Smith's shot pushed just wide of the left post.

The Wildcats (1-7-0) nearly tied the game again with 17 minutes remaining when Jordan Davis ripped a shot toward the right post but Thiam made the save. One minute later Cisse nearly added another score but Nicholls made the stop to keep the contest within one.

Cazenovia knotted the game at two apiece in the 83rd minute when Jake Robson buried a shot on a pass across the face of goal from Nathan DeSalvatore. Davis also earned an assist on the play.

The Roos were quick to respond just 63 seconds later as Cisse played a beautiful pass up the right side to Maurizio Paniconi (Carolina, Puerto Rico) who ripped a shot into the left corner to regain the SUNY Canton lead. Two minutes later Cisse added his second goal of the night as he bended a beautiful shot just under the crossbar off passes from Malinoski and Lebron.

Thiam made eight saves for the Roos, while Nicholls made five stops for the Wildcats.
