Canton, NY – Austin Lamay (Malone, NY) had a huge night stopping 12 shots but Oswego State scored off an own goal on a corner kick 5:07 into the first overtime to lift the visiting Lakers to a 1-0 win on Tuesday night in Canton.
Mitch Brickman took the kick from the right corner as it arrived at the near post and was mishit by a defender as it found its way into the back of the net inside the right post.
With just more than 18 minutes remaining in the opening half
Tyler Cook (Antwerp, NY) played a beautiful ball up the left side to
Nick Magliano (Farmingville, NY). Evan Bogucki came charging out as Magliano pushed his shot just wide of the right post.
Neither team found the back of the net in the opening 45 minutes as the Lakers held a 5-0 edge in shots on goal and 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
In the 49th minute Lamay made a great save on a point blank shot off the foot of Bernard Osei. Six minutes later the Roos had a great buildup as Magliano found
Josh Geller (Monroe, NY) who had his shot saved on a nice play from Bogucki, perhaps the Roos best offensive chance on the night.
With 19 minutes to play Brickman ripped a bending shot toward the left corner but Lamay made a diving save to his right to keep the game scoreless and Lucas Williamson's rebound shot went just right of the far post. One minute later Lamay came up big again on another shot just under the crossbar from Brickman.
With just less than six minutes remaining Lamay made another tremendous save on a pass into the box that was volleyed by Jason Siracuse from point blank range and turned aside. Â The teams would play to overtime.
Geller led the Roos (0-5-1) with two shots, one of which was on goal. Bogucki made one stop for the Lakers (3-3-0).
