Alfred, NY – Sophomore
Edward Malinoski, Jr. (Evans Mills, NY) scored his team-leading second and third goals of the season but the SUNY Canton men's soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision to Brooklyn College on Sunday in the Alfred University Tournament.
Malinoski opened the scoring in the 20th minute when he found the back of the net for the second time this season to give the Roos the early lead. High school classmate
Kyle Smith (Evans Mills, NY) provided the assist to set up the score. The Bulldogs (2-3-0) tied the game just before the half on a header goal by Kevin Bresnan.
Brooklyn took its first lead of the game in the 51st minute but Malinoski answered back three minutes later to tie the game at two. Brooklyn found the eventual game-winner off the foot of Jordy Ortiz with 10:40 to play resulting in the 3-2 victory.
Mouhammed Thiam (New York, NY) made five stops for the Roos, while Jerron Streete made seven saves for the Bulldogs.
Josh Geller (Monroe, NY) paced the Roos (0-4-1) with three shots on goal, while Malinoski challenged Streete as both of his shots on target found the back of the net.
Malinoski,
Erdous Lebron (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and
Joash Romain (Coroni, Trinidad & Tobago) were named to the All-Tournament Team for their play over the weekend.
