Houghton, NY – The SUNY Canton men's lacrosse team closed out its regular season with a 19-12 road win on Saturday afternoon at Houghton College.
SUNY Canton controlled ground balls 16-9 in the first quarter as they took a 6-2 lead after 15 minutes of play.
Luke DeGaetano (Canandaigua, NY) got the scoring started 4:40 into the game off a feed from
Kyle Smith (Evans Mills, NY).
Brandon Rodee (Canton, NY),
Trenton Yule (Oswego, NY) and
Chris Gamble (Carthage, NY) scored three straight goals after Houghton got on the board to open up a 4-1 advantage with 4:35 to play in the first.
After the Highlanders got within two, Yule and DeGaetano each slotted their second goals of the game in the final minute of the period to give the Roos a four goal edge after 15 minutes. Scoring was even at four apiece in the second stanza as the Roos took a 10-6 lead into intermission. Yule and Smith scored once each, while Smith found the back of the cage twice in the second quarter.
SUNY Canton put the game out of reach outscoring the Highlanders 5-0 in the third quarter as they opened up a 10 goal lead at 16-6 early in the fourth quarter on their way to the convincing win.
Yule, Smith and DeGaetano led the team offensively posting seven points apiece. DeGaetano finished with four goals and three assists, while Yule and Smith added three scores and four helpers each. Gamble also chipped in with three goals and two assists, while
Trevor Hughes (Dexter, NY) found the back of the net three times.
Jeffrey Perez (Bronx, NY) was a force in the midfield picking up a game-high 10 ground balls to go with 19 faceoff wins. Rodee also chipped in with seven ground balls and
Hunter Yerdon (Canton, NY) added five.
Andrew Fiske (Winthrop, NY) stopped 11 shots to improve to 5-1 on the season, while Chris Bucciarelli made 14 stops for the Highlanders.

This concludes the regular season for SUNY Canton. The Roos are eligible for ECAC postseason play finishing the season at better than .500. They will now wait and see if they receive a bid.
