Rodee Records Game-High 8 Ground Balls in Loss to Lakers

Canton, NY – Sophomore Brandon Rodee (Canton, NY) picked up a game-high eight ground balls but a quick start lifted visiting Oswego State to a 19-5 victory on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lakers (5-7) got out to a quick start scoring the first seven goals of the game including five tallies over the first 2:46 of the contest. Kyle Smith (Evans Mills, NY) got the Roos on the board with 3:02 remaining on his 17th goal of the season off a nice pass from Luke DeGaetano (Canandaigua, NY). Oswego State led 10-1 after one.

Trenton Yule (Oswego, NY) scored his 25th of the season for SUNY Canton (5-6) in the second quarter as SUNY Canton was much stronger in the second quarter but the Lakers took a 13-2 lead into intermission. Ryan Jelen led Oswego State with three first half goals, while Luke Krizman, Bobby Emerson, and Jarrod Wilkom slotted two each.

Yule scored his second of the game 1:27 into the second half but the Lakers scored the final three goals of the period to lead 16-3 after three. Skye Sunday (Akwesasne, NY) and Chris Gamble caged fourth quarter goals en route to the loss.

Brandon Rodee (Canton, NY) tallied a game-high eight ground balls and caused one turnover, while Gamble, Smith and Yule finished with four ground balls apiece. Andrew Fiske (Winthrop, NY) registered another 16 save effort dropping his first game of the season, while Troy Calkin made eight stops for the Lakers.

Oswego State held a 20-8 advantage in the faceoff circle including a 16-1 mark in the opening half. The Roos were fairly even with the Lakers in ground balls trailing only 46-42 but 31 turnovers proved costly.
