Yule and Kocsis Lead Men’s Lacrosse to 8-5 Win v. Wildcats

Canton, NY – Sophomore Trenton Yule (Oswego, NY) scored four times and freshman goalie Kody Kocsis (Brasher Falls, NY) stopped 17 shots as the SUNY Canton men's lacrosse team earned an 8-5 victory against visiting SUNY Poly on Wednesday afternoon.

The Roos (1-3) got out to a quick 2-0 start after the opening period behind a pair of goals from Yule. Chris Gamble (Carthage, NY) and Kyle Smith (Evans Mills, NY) assisted the first quarter tallies.

SUNY Poly (1-6) responded with three straight scores over the first seven minutes of the second stanza to open their first lead of the game at 3-2. Connor Elsenbeck netted a pair of the strikes.

The Roos responded with the final four goals of the half as Gamble caged a pair, Yule completed the hat trick and Brandon Rodee (Canton, NY) slotted his second of the season. SUNY Canton took a 6-3 lead into intermission as they held a 27-21 lead in ground balls and had the upper hand in successful clears, 8-4.

The Wildcats outscored SUNY Canton 2-1 in the third quarter but the Roos defense was solid behind Kocsis who made seven fourth period stops without allowing a goal leading to their first victory of 2016, 8-5.

Overall Kocsis had another spectacular outing stopping 17 of the 22 shots he faced. R.J. Ferrucci turned aside seven shots on 15 attempts for the Wildcats.
 Yule led the way for the Roos with four goals and an assist, while Gamble recorded two goals and an assist. Smith was a catalyst offensively dishing out a game-high three helpers. Devin Gruneisen (Potsdam, NY) and Rodee scored the other Canton goals.

Smith registered a team-high six ground balls, while Taylor Mustizer (Adams, NY) and Rodee added five pick-ups apiece. Smith and Gamble tallied a team-high three caused turnovers apiece.
