Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton men's basketball team received 36 points off the bench to earn a 71-65 victory against visiting Vermont Tech on Sunday afternoon in the Roos House.
The Roos (16-3) jumped out to an early 22-11 lead 13 minutes into the contest, their largest lead of the half. The Knights closed the stanza strong getting within 34-28 at intermission.
Vonallen Pickett (Brooklyn, NY) led SUNY Canton with nine points in the opening half.
Vermont Tech (5-17) took its first lead of the game 4:24 into the second half when Logan White hit a three-pointer just before the expiration of the shot clock to put the Knights up 41-40.
Kevin Baksh (Queens, NY) quickly responded with a long ball and the Roos took the lead for good after
Romario Fletcher (Queens, NY) scored a bucket inside with 9:55 to play.
SUNY Canton used a 14-4 run over a span of 3:28 to take command of the game up 64-52 with 5:17 to play sealing the win.
Pickett and Fletcher led the charge with 19 points apiece, while Pickett added 11 rebounds. The duo combined to score 24 points after halftime. Robert Holliday led three Knights in double figures with 19 points, while Taylar Marston and Brian Richards added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Roos held a 48-37 edge in rebounding and 22 offensive rebounds led to 18 second chance points. SUNY Canton received a big lift from its bench outscoring the Vermont Tech reserves, 36-21. Ten different players scored for the hosts.
