Vonallen Pickett (Brooklyn, NY) posted at least 26 points for the second consecutive game as the SUNY Canton men's basketball team never trailed en route to a 75-56 win against visiting Mount St. Mary College on Wednesday evening in the Roos House.
The Roos (14-3) jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead behind a pair of buckets inside from
Matt Spencer (Gouverneur, NY). SUNY Canton used a 14-3 run to close out the first half extending their lead to 39-21 at intermission.
Vonallen Pickett (Brooklyn, NY) led the way with 10 points, while
Kam Peterkin (Harlem, NY) added nine points in the opening 20 minutes. The Knights (7-13) shot 24 percent from the field and just 1-for-11 from behind the arc. Meanwhile, the Roos shot 49 percent from the field and 36 percent from three-point range in the opening half, including hitting on five three-pointers.
Pickett hit a long ball in the opening minute of the second half as the Roos doubled up the Knights, 42-21. From that point the Mount would get no closer than 15 points the remainder of the way.
Pickett paced the Roos with a game-high 26 points, 16 of which came after intermission. Peterkin chipped in 11 points, while
Walt Jeter (Fort Drum, NY) posted 10 rebounds to go with four assists.
Sam Annorh (Queens, NY) added a game-high six assists to go with six points, while
Laquan Robinson (Spring Valley, NY) recorded a career-high seven points off the bench.
The Roos shot 50 percent from the floor after halftime as Pickett posted 16 points on 4-for-6 shooting from the field and a 7-for-8 mark from the charity stripe. SUNY Canton held a 40-24 edge in points in the paint in the contest.
T.J. Patsalos paced the Knights with 12 points, while Daniel Wolff added seven points and six rebounds and Austin Stewart chipped in five assists.
