Women’s Basketball Closes out Home Schedule on Senior Day

Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's basketball team couldn't survive a triple-double from Regina Steele as they dropped a 91-50 decision to visiting College of St. Joseph on Sunday afternoon.

The College of St. Joseph (25-1) jumped out to a quick start leading 20-9 after the opening quarter. The Fighting Saints ran an up-tempo offense with a full court trapping defense that caused problems for the Roos (8-14). CSJ outscored SUNY Canton 30-12 in the second quarter to take a commanding 50-21 lead into intermission.

Brianna Sayer (Hermon, NY) led the Roos with 10 points in the first half, while Karyss Terrance (Hogansburg, NY) added six points and nine rebounds. Regina Steele nearly posted a triple double in the opening 20 minutes with 19 points, 13 rebounds and eight blocks on 8-for-11 shooting. Chontayvia Kennedy and Jazsala Laracuente added 15 and 13 points, respectively.

Play was much more even in the second half as the Fighting Saints earned the convincing win. Regina Steele reached the 1,000 point career scoring milestone as she posted a triple-double with 32 points, 23 rebounds, 14 blocks, six steals and three assists. Chontayvia Kennedy and Jazsala Laracuente added 30 and 18 points, respectively for CSJ.
