Canton, NY – SUNY Canton will celebrate National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) by inviting local girls and young women to their women's hockey contest on Saturday. 

This year marks the 30th annual NGWSD. We invite you to join us in celebrating the extraordinary achievements of those who have effected change and created opportunities for women and girls in sports over the past three decades.

The women's hockey team has invited the Canton Blades to join them at their home game on Saturday.
 
"We are very excited to welcome the Canton Blades to the Roos House for our game against Johnson & Wales," said Head Coach Dave LaBaff. "This is a terrific opportunity for our women to serve as role models and share the love for the game of hockey with our area youth."

The women's basketball team will also host Villa Maria College Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the Roos House. 
 
Following the women's basketball and hockey contests SUNY Canton's female student-athletes along with the Canton Blades and any other young women in the crowd involved in athletics will gather on the ice in the Roos House to be recognized.

NGWSD took place nationwide on February 3rd, but the Roos are celebrating during their home games on Saturday.

Young women are encouraged to demonstrate their commitment to sports by wearing a T-shirt or jersey that identifies their participation in team or individual athletic competition.

This year's NGWSD theme, Leading the Way, is a nod to all those individuals and organizations who are on the front line for girls and women in sports: the organizations committed to advancing women's issues, athletes who have overcome barriers, coaches who challenge their teams to succeed, girls who have faith in their own potential and all those who continue to use the power of example to inspire greatness.
