Middlebury, VT – Josh Sova scored his sixth goal of the season 3:50 into the third period to lift the SUNY Canton men's hockey team to a 1-0 victory against host Middlebury College in the consolation game of the Middlebury Classic on Saturday.
Middlebury (0-9-1) held an 11-5 shots advantage in the opening period but 11 saves from
Josh Erickson kept the game tied after one. The teams combined for 15 shots in a back-and-forth middle period setting up the decisive final frame.
The Roos (3-9-2) netted the winning goal 3:50 into the final period when
Tyler Bullard touched a short pass across the Panther goal mouth to the right post where Sova tapped the puck in for the game-winner.
Vili-Jesper Koivula also earned a helper on the play.
Erickson stopped all 27 shots he faced in his first win and shutout of the season, while Brian Ketchabaw turned aside 18 shots for Middlebury.
Sova was named to the All-Tournament Team for SUNY Canton.
