Men’s Basketball Defeats Drew 74-72 in OT to Advance to Tampa Bay Shootout Championship

Tampa, FL – Adrian Williams scored a team-high 18 points including four in overtime to lift the SUNY Canton men's basketball team to a 74-72 victory against Drew University in the Tampa Bay Shootout at Tampa Prep on Thursday.

With the win the Roos (5-5) advance to the championship game where they will square off with DePauw University on Friday at 3 p.m.

Trailing 60-57 with 4:27 remaining in regulation the Roos used a 6-0 run that included two buckets from Romario Fletcher to take a 63-60 lead with 2:15 to play. The teams traded baskets and Riley Collins was fouled attempting the game-tying three-pointer with six seconds remaining. He sank all three free throws and a Williams attempt at the buzzer missed sending the game to OT.

Annorh fouled out at the end of regulation and Taylor Ashby replaced him as he drained a three-pointer to open overtime and Williams followed with a pair of free throws to extend the lead to five. The Roos extended the lead to six on another pair of free throws from Williams with 26 seconds left in regulation. Darius Reiter splashed a pair of treys around a pair of free throw makes from Walt Jeter. Collins had a look from long distance at the buzzer that would have won it but the shot missed as the Roos held on for their fifth victory of the season.

Williams led Canton with 18 points and four steals, while Fletcher extended his double-double streak to eight games with 17 points and 14 rebounds while blocking three shots. Rashad Richardson finished with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Annorh posted 10 points and Jeter added seven points and nine rebounds.

The Roos jumped out to an early 15-4 lead, their largest of the game, 5:05 into the contest. Annorh, Fletcher and Richardson all scored two baskets each during the early run. Drew chipped away at the deficit tying the game at 28 apiece but the Roos closed the final 1:59 of the half on a 5-0 run to take a 33-28 lead into intermission.

Nate Aldrich led all players with 25 points and 18 rebounds for the Rangers (5-5), while Dan Roibal also recorded a double-double on 16 points and 10 boards. Collins also finished in double figures with 15 points.
