Strong Second Half Leads Clarkson Past Men’s Basketball

Potsdam, NY – The SUNY Canton men's basketball team held an early lead but host Clarkson University stormed back in the second half for a 95-75 victory on Wednesday evening.

The Roos (2-3) jumped out to a quick 8-0 start behind a pair of Adrian Williams (Brooklyn, NY) three-pointers and a bucket inside from Walt Jeter (Fort Drum, NY). Leading 8-4 SUNY Canton went on another run, this time a 9-0 spurt over 1:39 culminating in a Romario Fletcher (Queens, NY) slam dunk. Canton opened its largest lead of the half at 28-11 with 11:01 to play after a Sam Annorh (Queens, NY) layup.

Over the next four minutes the Golden Knights (4-3) answered with a 14-1 run of their own. SUNY Canton would extend its lead to as many as eight again before Clarkson closed the half trailing just 39-37 at intermission.

Annorh led all players with 13 points on 5-for-9 shooting in the opening half, while Williams added 11 points going 3-for-5 from distance. Fletcher also posted double digit points with 10 in the opening half. Liam Ellis and Matt Higgins posted nine points each for the hosts. SUNY Canton shot 56 percent from the field, while Clarkson hit on just 34 percent of their shots.

Clarkson took its first lead of the game after a Drew Zlogar three-pointer out of halftime and extended its lead to double digits just five minutes into the second half. The Golden Knights would hold onto their steady lead throughout the second half en route to the 95-75 victory.

Annorh led all players with 23 points, while Fletcher added 22 points and 11 rebounds for his third straight double-double. Williams finished with 16 points for the Roos.
