Buffalo, NY – Taylor Saltus (Clintonville, NY) posted a game-high 22 points but host D'Youville College hit for 16 three-pointers to earn an 82-63 victory on Sunday afternoon.
The hosts jumped out to a 24-18 lead after the opening quarter despite the Roos shooting 50 percent from the floor and from three-point range. The Spartans outscored Canton 26-11 in the second stanza to take a commanding 50-29 lead into intermission.
Jenifer Morgan-Aubin (Hartford, NY led the Roos with 10 points and seven rebounds on 5-for-8 shooting, while Saltus added eight points. Magan Magee paced D'Youville with 12 points, while Jean-Ann Korona added 11 points as five Spartans had eight or more points at intermission.
The Roos (0-4) hung tough in the third quarter as D'Youville (2-1) held a slim 18-15 edge in scoring to extend its lead to 68-44 after 30 minutes of action. SUNY Canton outscored the Spartans over the final 10 minute period, 19-14, resulting in the 82-63 final.
Saltus led all players with 22 points to go with nine rebounds, six assists and three steals. Morgan-Aubin posted her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while
Randi Conway (Mount Upton, NY) added 11 points.
Tatiana Laroche (Elmont, NY) chipped in nine points and eight rebounds, while
Allison Fink (Saranac, NY) added seven points off the bench.
Magee led D'Youville with 21 points, while Korona and Ali Cochrane added 15 points apiece. Hannah Simone and CeDrice Howard recorded 11 and 10 points, respectively, as the Spartans had five players reach double figures.
D'Youville shot 46 percent from the field including hitting on 16 three-pointers (16-for-35), which proved to be the difference. The Roos shot for marks of 42 and 11 percent, respectively, but held a 44-32 edge in rebounding.
The Roos are back in action on Tuesday when they visit Oswego State at 5:30 p.m.
