Oswego, NY – Tatiana Laroche (Elmont, NY) tied a game-high 17 points and added a game-best nine rebounds but the SUNY Canton women's basketball team dropped a 71-46 road decision at Oswego State on Tuesday.
Laroche finished with 17 points and nine boards shooting 7-for-11 from the field in 39 minutes. Junior
Taylor Saltus (Clintonville, NY) posted eight points, seven rebounds and four assists but nine turnovers proved costly.
Randi Conway (Mount Upton, NY) chipped in seven points to go with eight rebounds for the Roos (0-5).
Heather Hebert paced the host Lakers (1-4) with 17 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Mary Mazella added 12 points. Courtney Ameele (11) and Zana Dillard (10) also scored in double figures for Oswego State.
The Lakers came charging out of the gates as Ameele scored the first seven points of the contest. The Roos got on the board 3:40 in when Sade Rogers (Bronx, NY) split on a pair from the free throw line. SUNY Canton battled back the remainder of the opening period as Saltus found Laroche for a jumper with four seconds left to cut the deficit to 13-9 after one.
Oswego State used another strong start to the second quarter going on an 8-0 run before that was halted by a bucket inside from Laroche. The Lakers extended their lead to as many as 24 before taking a 43-22 advantage into intermission.
The Roos were never able to get closer than 19 the remainder of the game although they hung tough with Oswego State in scoring after halftime, 28-24.
The hosts shot 44 percent from the floor, while Canton hit on just 30 percent of its attempts. The Roos held a 46-35 edge in rebounding including dominating the offensive glass, 21-10.
