Canton, NY – Sophomore keeper Mouhammed Thiam (New York, NY) made seven saves and the SUNY Canton men's soccer team scored two second half goals to lift the Roos to a 3-1 victory against SUNY Poly on Wednesday.

SUNY Poly (3-9-0) got on the board first in the ninth minute when Nick McBride fired an initial shot that was saved by Thiam. However, the rebound went right to Blake Elliott at the right post who put it home for his first goal of the season.

The Roos (2-9-1) responded 1:59 before halftime when Nick Magliano (Farmingville, NY) fed Edward Malinoski, Jr. (Evans Mills, NY) just outside the top of the box. Malinoski ripped a shot into the upper left hand corner past a diving Patrick Anunziatta as he dove to his right. SUNY Poly held a 6-3 edge in shots on goal in the opening half but four saves from Thiam and a defensive save kept the game knotted at one at intermission.

Tyler Cook (Antwerp, NY) had a great chance four minutes into the second half when he struck a left-footed shot that was saved by Annunziata. Seconds later Cook found Jacob Jones (Wolcott, NY) who redirected a header but Anunziatta was up to the task.
With 20:30 remaining the Wildcats had a great chance to take the lead when Daniel Riley blasted a shot toward the right post but Thiam made a great diving save to his left to keep the game tied at one.

Less than two minutes later the Roos took the lead off a Marc Ramirez (La Puente, CA) corner. The ball redirected off the head of a Wildcat defender and into the net for the own goal. With 27 seconds remaining SUNY Canton added an insurance goal when Josh Geller (Monroe, NY) played a ball up the middle to Mouhamadou Cisse (Sacre Coeur, Dakar, Senegeal) who flicked the ball past the goalie for his third goal in as many games.

Thiam made seven saves for the Roos, while Anunziatta turned aside five shots for the Wildcats.
