Canton, NY – Seven different players scored as the SUNY Canton men's soccer team opened up a five goal halftime lead on its way to an 8-0 home victory against Berkeley College (NY) on Sunday afternoon.
The Roos (3-9-1) wasted no time jumping out to a quick lead just 38 seconds in when
Edward Malinoski, Jr. (Evans Mills, NY) headed home his team-leading sixth goal of the season off service from
Marc Ramirez (La Puente, CA). SUNY Canton doubled its lead with 12:26 left in the opening half.
Erdous Lebron (San Juan, Puerto Rico) found
Mouhamadou Cisse (Sacre Coeur, Dakar, Senegal) in the midfield. Cisse quickly turned and played a perfect through ball from left to right to a cutting
Josh Geller (Monroe, NY) who one-timed a shot to the left of the charging keeper.
SUNY Canton added a third score in the 38th minute when
Andrew Barber (Lansing, NY) netted his first goal of the season off a corner kick from the far side that skipped through traffic and into the far side of the net. The Roos made it 4-0 at 40:03 when
Mamadou Dansoko (New York, NY) put home a rebound at the near post after an initial shot from
Kyle Smith (Evans Mills, NY) was saved by Osvin Videz Vasquez.
Smith added his own goal with 3:19 remaining in the first half off a penalty kick after a Knights defender committed a yellow card in the box. SUNY Canton led 5-0 at intermission holding an 11-1 shots on goal advantage.
Cisse added his fourth goal of the season in the 54th minute to extend the Roos lead to six. In the 72nd minute
Tyler Cook (Antwerp, NY) took the ball down the left side and ripped a shot that was initially saved by Vasquez. Cisse corralled the rebound and buried his second goal of the day into the open net. With 15:30 remaining
Hamza Meer (Karachi, Pakistan) netted his first collegiate goal off a set piece as he placed a direct kick in the top right corner to round out the scoring.
Mouhammed Thiam turned aside one shot in the first half earning his third win of the season, while
Connor Campbell (Glasgow, Scotland) made four saves in the second half. Vasquez made nine saves for the Knights (3-9-0).
