Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team dropped its first contest of the season to No. 18 nationally-ranked Clarkson University on Tuesday evening at the Roos House. The Golden Knights (8-3) defeated the Roos (8-1) in straight sets 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-19).
The Roos struggled from the service line with five errors in the opening set which proved costly as Clarkson took advantage leading to a 25-16 first set victory. Trailing 17-4 in the second set the Roos gained some momentum by the substitution of
Jenea Shoemaker (Walworth, NY) as they scored five straight points and got within 17-9. The Golden Knights responded to earn the 25-12 second set victory.
SUNY Canton got out to a 2-0 start in the third stanza. The Roos hung tough within 12-11 part way through the set but the Knights began to pull away with five straight points to make it 17-11. The Roos continued to battle down the stretch getting within two points at 21-19 but Clarkson pulled out the straight set victory 25-19.
Kelsy Cornish led the way with seven kills and seven digs, while Shoemaker added six kills.
Lindsay Bryer (Wilson, NY) posted 10 digs, while
Kiana Archer (Plattsburgh, NY) added nine.
Peyton Robinson (Bloomfield, NY) led the way with 17 assists.
