GAME 1 BOX / GAME 2 BOX / GAME 3 BOXCanton, NY – St. Lawrence University scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to earn a walk-off win and sweep a three game set against SUNY Canton on Sunday. The Saints (12-9) earned 9-3, 9-1 and 3-2 wins over the Roos (6-17).
Game 1The Roos jumped out to a quick start in Game 1 plating all three of their runs in the bottom of the first. SUNY Canton used three consecutive singles to get the inning going. Travis Schnidler (West Islip, NY) led off with a base hit to center and
Jesse Barton (Belle Glade, FL) followed with a bunt single.
Jeremy Baez (Bronx, NY) put one in the gap in left center to score Schindler and move Barton to third. Baez stole second base to put runners in scoring position.
Brandon Welch (Constable, NY) brought Barton home on a groundout to short and then
Nicolas Demarais (Plattsburgh, NY) used a base knock to left to score Baez.
St. Lawrence took control of the game with seven runs in the second and third innings en route to the 9-3 victory.
Mike McGinn (Palmyra, NY) led the way with two hits and a walk for the Roos.
Travis Bigelow (Ottawa, ON) took the loss on the hill spreading nine hits and five earned runs over six and two-thirds innings.
Game 2The Saints plated one in the top of the first inning but the Roos got that run back in the bottom half of the fourth.
Christian Nazario-Cruz (Naguabo, Puerto Rico) used a base hit to center to get things started.
Wilson Matos (Brooklyn, NY) singled through the right side and Nazario-Cruz went first to third with some heads up base running.
Matos stole second to leave runners at second and third for Baez with one down. He grounded out to first bringing the tying run across but a fly out ended the inning leaving Matos on third.
St. Lawrence broke the tie with five runs in the fifth and added three in the sixth on its way to the 9-1 victory.
Juan Rosa (Naguabo, Puerto Rico) tossed five innings giving up six earned run and seven hits.
Dom Deliberti (Staten Island, NY) gave up three runs, all of which were unearned in two innings of relief work.
Game 3Both teams were held scoreless through three innings until
Seth Douglas (Reedsburg, WI) led off the fourth with a triple to center.
Chris Roenbeck (Plattsburgh, NY) would bring him home in the next at-bat with a sacrifice fly to right.
The Roos added what looked to be an important insurance run in the seventh. Barton singled through the left side and Demarais moved him to second on a sacrifice bunt. Barton would take third base on a passed ball and
Vinny Bondinello (Egg Harbor, NJ) brought him home on a sacrifice fly.
The Saints rallied to win the game in the bottom of the seventh. With two down in the inning Chris Fernandez doubled to right field and Isaac Lewis followed with a single to left. A passed ball brought Lewis across. After a pair of walks loaded the bases Michael LeFevre singled to left center bringing the game-tying and winning runs across.
Derek Harkin (Ottawa, ON) gave up just five hits and two earned runs over six and two-thirds. He walked six and struck out two. Douglas went 3-for-3, while Barton also had a multi-hit game.
