Corey Spuck (Rochester, NY) had a tremendous game in net for the men's lacrosse team making 21 saves but Sam Siegel scored 2:19 into overtime to give visiting Castleton State College a 6-5 win on Wednesday evening in Canton.
The visitors got on the board first just 2:18 into the contest when Sean Paradis found the back of the net. The tally was the lone of the first quarter as the visitors led 1-0 after one. The Roos responded as
Ryan Cardiff (Albany, NY) caged his sixth and seventh goals of the season in the second quarter, the second coming with just six seconds left in the half.
SUNY Canton held the 2-1 lead intermission as senior Spuck made 12 huge first half saves.
Castleton State scored a pair of goals 39 seconds apart to take a 3-2 lead early in the third quarter. The Roos responded with 7:58 remaining in the quarter as Cardiff earned the hat trick to knot the game at three.
The Spartans regained the one-goal lead when Alex Denny caged his fifth of the season. Cardiff proved he could also be the catalyst offensively setting up
Garrett DiTullio's (Potsdam, NY) second goal of the season to tie the game once again, this time at four.
Steve Novak (Seymour, CT) gave the hosts their first lead of the second half with 9:19 remaining on his first goal of the season, but the Spartans responded just over a minute later off the stick of Siegel. Neither team could beat the opposing goalie the final eight minutes of regulation sending the game to overtime.
Siegel would come up with the heroics 2:19 into overtime to secure the win for Castleton State.
Spuck turned aside 21 shots, one off his season high, while Sam Polas made eight stops for the Spartans.
Tony Carden (Franklin, MA) was impressive for the Roos finishing with game-highs of eight ground balls and four caused turnovers.
