Box ScoreUtica, NY – The SUNY Canton women's ice hockey team dropped a 5-0 road decision to host Utica College on Tuesday evening.
The Pioneers (9-8-4) got on the board first at 6:15 of the opening period when Louise Steele-Norton found the back of the net for the seventh time this season. Just 2:40 later Taylor Osowski made it 2-0. Utica took a 3-0 lead into first intermission on Gabrielle Schnepp's fifth of the season.
Morgan Reed and Carlie Smith added second and third period goals, respectively, as the Pioneers earned the victory.
Peyton Stafne (St. Louis Park, MN) made 23 saves for SUNY Canton, while Gabrielle Abbott turned aside 12 shots for Utica.
During the game, the Pioneers were able to raise $3,000 for the Shawn Grady Fund to help local children fighting cancer. In three years, UC has managed to raise nearly $9,000 towards the cause. The Roos (2-20-1) are back in action next Tuesday when they visit SUNY Cortland at 7:00 p.m. The Pioneers visit Plattsburgh State for a weekend series on Saturday and Sunday.
