Four Score in Double Figures for Women’s Basketball v. Houghton

Canton, NY – Four different players scored in double figures but the SUNY Canton women's basketball team dropped a 65-55 decision to visiting Houghton College on Saturday afternoon at the Roos House.

Brianna Sayer (Hermon, NY) led the Roos (1-6) with 14 points and added four steals and four rebounds. Taylor Saltus (Clintonville, NY) posted 12 points, a game-high six assists, five rebounds and three steals, while Karyss Terrance (Hogansburg, NY) was just one rebound short of a double-double with 11 points and nine boards. Tatiana Laroche (Elmont, NY) also scored in double figures finishing with 10 points.

The Highlanders (5-3) jumped out to an early 5-0 lead but SUNY Canton battled back to take its first lead of the contest at 10-9 with 2:52 remaining in the opening quarter after Terrance found Laroche who hit on a jumper. Houghton led 15-12 after the first quarter.

The teams were tied twice in the second stanza including at 17-17 before Houghton closed the half on an 8-2 run to take a 25-19 lead into intermission.

Both offenses started to click more in the third quarter as they combined for 42 points after scoring just 17 points in the second. The Highlanders closed the period on a 7-0 run to take a 47-39 lead into the fourth quarter as they held on for the 65-55 victory.

Hannah Manwaring paced Houghton with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Maisie Pipher finished with a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. Elle Reed (13) and Leslie Moose (10) also scored in double figures. The Highlanders held a 52-38 edge on the glass and 26-8 advantage in bench scoring.
