Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton men's basketball team returns 11 players from last year's team that went 16-6 and had the most successful season in 17 years. Head Coach
Jim Bechtel welcomes three new players to the team during the 2015-16 season as he looks to continue the tremendous growth of the program.
"We're very excited about the group we have this year. This will be the most experience team we've had at Canton since I've been here. The guys have been working really hard this preseason and we're looking forward to having a great year.
The Roos return their top five leading scorers paced by point guard
Sam Annorh (Queens, NY) who averaged 17.0 points and 4.2 assists per game last season.
Romario Fletcher (Queens, NY) and
Khalil Bratton (Queens, NY) both averaged double figure points with 11.8 and 10.0 points per outing, respectively, while combining to haul down 13.6 rebounds per game.
Kam Peterkin (Harlem, NY) and
Vonallen Pickett (Brooklyn, NY) also gave the Roos key lifts off the bench averaging 6.9 and 6.1 points per game last season. The Roos put together a seven game winning streak last season including winning 11 of 12 contests.
SUNY Canton will play a 25 game schedule during the 2015-16 season including nine home contests. The Roos will open their season at the North Country Tip-off Tournament hosted by SUNY Potsdam. SUNY Canton opens play with Clarkson University and then will play either the Bears or SUNY Poly on Saturday. SUNY Canton will also host the Golden Knights on December 3rd and visit SUNY Potsdam on December 13th.
The Roos welcome three new players to the roster in freshmen
Kaden Dandrow (Degrasse, NY) and
Adrian Williams (Brooklyn, NY) as well as junior college transfer
Kazre Cummings (Providence, RI). The newcomers will look to make an immediate impact with Cummings and Dandrow both providing added size at the forward position as they both stand at 6-5, while Williams will add quickness and shooting at the guard position.
