Men’s Hockey Drops Opener of Weekend Series to Buffalo State

Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton men's hockey team dropped the opening game of a weekend series 10-1 to visiting Buffalo State College on Friday evening at the Roos House.

The Bengals (1-2-2) picked up their first victory of the season as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead after 16 minutes of play in the opening period behind a pair of goals from Zach Nieminen.

Nick Lepone (Richmondhill, ON) got the Roos within 4-1 at 18:37 of the first on his third goal of the season. Josh Sova (Oswego, NY) and Ben Beasley (Burlington, ON) earned helpers on the play.

Buffalo State added three goals in the second including a pair from Taylor Pryce who finished off the hat trick as the Bengals led 7-1 after two. The visitors added three more goals in the third en route to the 10-1 final.

Louie Puig (Chicago, IL) got the start making 10 saves, while Josh Erickson (Woodbury, MN) made six stops for the Roos. Mike DeLaVergne stopped 16 shots in the start for the Bengals, while Ian Sylves made 10 stops in relief.
