Potsdam, NY – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team closed out its weekend dropping a pair of matches to Susquehanna University and Clarkson University at the Golden Knights Tournament. The Roos fell 3-0 (11-25, 15-25, 21-25) to the Crusaders before dropping a 3-0 (19-25, 20-25, 10-25) decision to the Knights.
Game 1 – BoxThe Roos played even with Susquehanna for most of the match in their opener but the Crusaders used timely runs in each set to pull away for the straight set victory. In the first set, Susquehanna and the Roos were tied at 5-5 before the Crusaders went on a 9-0 run to force Canton to use both of its timeouts. The second set had a similar run, except midway through the frame. Leading 8-7 early, the Crusaders scored five of the next six points and 10 of the next 13 points overall. In the final set of the match SUNY Canton wouldn't go away, minimizing its mistakes and keeping the rallies alive. SUNY Canton got within three at the end, but the Crusaders closed out the match with a double block.
Kelsy Cornish (Honeoye, NY) led the Roos with a match-high 10 kills to go with 10 digs, while
Haley Riley (Lowville, NY) added seven kills.
Peyton Robinson (Bloomfield, NY) posted 21 assists and nine digs, while
Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, ON) recorded 18 digs.
Game 2 – BoxSUNY Canton hung tough with No. 18 nationally-ranked Clarkson through the first two sets as the Golden Knights pulled away in the final frame. Riley led the way with eight kills, while Cornish added seven. Carroll and
Lindsay Bryer (Wilson, NY) tallied 19 and 15 digs, respectively, while Robinson dished out 22 assists to go with seven digs.
