Canton, NY -- Junior
Grace Lyon (Brasher Falls, NY) scored her second goal in as many games to tie the game at one, but visiting Stevenson University took a 7-1 decision to split a weekend series with the SUNY Canton women's ice hockey team on Saturday at the Roos House.
Stevenson got on the board first 4:12 into the first period when Monica Pozuc skated behind net left to right and found Monica Pozuc in the slot who beat
Rebecca DiNardo (Ottawa, ON) glove side. The Roos (1-5-0) quickly responded breaking out off the ensuing faceoff as
Lora Ardoin (Houston, TX) hit Lyon with a pass in stride as she snuck a shot past the glove side of Anastassia Nelson to knot the game at one apiece.
The Mustangs retook the lead at the 13:54 mark of the period as Brooke Webber snuck a shot past the blocker of DiNardo off the feed from Savannah Sommers. Megan Alexander found Chelsea Blackburn 61 seconds later to make it 3-1 and Madison Lange netted a power play score later in the period as Stevenson led 4-1 after a high scoring first period.
Tori Emoff added a score for Stevenson midway through the second stanza as she struck a shot that made its way through traffic in front from the blue line. The Mustangs took the four-goal lead into second intermission.
Stevenson would add two power play goals in the third period for the 7-1 final. DiNardo stopped 28 shots, while
Becca Kieffer (Lee Center, NY) stopped all four shots she faced in relief. Nelson turned aside 15 Roo shots.
