Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton men's basketball team used an impressive 19-4 run over the final six minutes of the contest to come from behind defeating visiting College of St. Joseph, 84-79, Friday evening at the Roos House.
The Roos trailed 72-65 with 6:25 remaining after a long ball from the Saints' Ramel Anderson. SUNY Canton exploded scoring 15 of the next 16 points. Four different players scored on the spurt led by seven from
Rashad Richardson (Rochester, NY) and four from
Khalil Bratton (Queens, NY) including a steal an emphatic throw down.
SUNY Canton (5-11) used great poise and free throw shooting to close out the 84-79 victory.
Sam Annorh (Queens, NY) paced the Roos with 20 points on 6-for-12 shooting. Bratton was a force with 16 points hitting seven of his 10 field goal attempts.
Romario Fletcher (Queens, NY) narrowly missed a double-double with 10 points and nine boards, five of which came on the offensive glass.
Tyler Ellison (New York, NY) posted 12 points and
Xzavier Fisher (Brooklyn, NY) had a big game off the bench with 11 points in 18 minutes.
The Saints (10-12) opened their largest lead at seven with 7:27 left in the opening half but SUNY Canton used a 7-0 run to tie it at 28 as the Roos led 37-36 at intermission. After SUNY Canton opened up a 45-40 lead in the early stages of the second stanza it was College of St. Joseph who used a 15-3 spurt to take a 55-48 edge with 13:35 to play.
SUNY Canton shot a blistering 53 percent from the field compared to 45 percent from the visitors. However, the Saints knocked down 53 percent (11-for-21) of their shots from long distance to stay in the game. The Roos held a big advantage in points in the paint (52-30) and fast break points (20-6).
Anderson led all scorers with 24 for the Saints, while Dre Anderson and Kashean Alston each chipped in 13 points as the other double figure scorers for CSJ.
