Montreal, QUE – The men's basketball team opened play at the 2014 Martin Luther King Classic dropping an 81-58 decision to Rochester College (MI) on Friday evening.
Sam Annorh (Queens, NY) and
Khalil Bratton (Queens, NY) led the Roos finishing in double digit points with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Both players ripped down five rebounds while Dixon was extremely efficient from the field hitting on five of his six attempts.
Tom Coloney (Harrisville, NY) added nine points, while
Romario Fletcher (Queens, NY) tallied seven.
Tyler Ellison (New York, NY) led SUNY Canton with a team-high six boards to go with his six points.
Rochester led by as many as 14 in the opening half, but every time the Warriors looked to separate themselves the Roos would respond with a run. Rochester took a 37-26 advantage into intermission.
The Warriors burst out of intermission using an 18-3 spurt to open up a 26 point advantage at 55-29. SUNY Canton trimmed the lead to 16 at 58-42 after a trey from Coloney with 8:19 remaining. That was as close as the Roos would get as Rochester cruised to the 81-58 victory.
SUNY Canton hit on 41 percent of its shots, while the Warriors converted 45 percent of their field goals. Both teams were on fire from long distance as Rochester went 15-for-29 (52%) and the Roos were 8-for-19 (42%). Rochester held edges in rebounding (38-31) and points off turnovers (24-6), while SUNY Canton had the upper hand in bench points (33-7) and second chance points (12-9).
