Ranahan Nets Lone Tally in Roos Loss to Bears

Canton, NY – Jake Ranahan (Grapevine, TX) netted the lone Roo goal in the third period as the men's hockey team fell, 6-1, to visiting SUNY Potsdam Saturday evening at the Roos House. The Bears improve to 2-6-0, while the Roos fall to 1-7-1.

The visitors got on the board first at the 13:04 mark of the first when Matt Thompson fed the puck to Billy Pascalli at the left faceoff circle. He played a quick pass to Mike Arnold on the right side who beat Roo goaltender Louie Puig (Chicago, IL) over his glove top shelf for the 1-0 lead. Fifty seconds later the Bears added another tally as Vinny Caligiuri lit the lamp beating Puig glove side off a feed from Ken Simon. Potsdam took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission holding an 18-7 shots on goal edge in the opening period.
 
The Bears added three second period goals, one each from Simon, Dan McCamey and Zach Blake to make it 5-0 after two. Arnold netted his second of the game on the power play at the 4:20 mark of the third.
 
The Roos would add a goal nearly nine minutes into the final period when Ranahan earned his first goal of the season off passes from Cory Giczewski (Fountain Valley, CA) and Kristian Leach (Indianapolis, IN). Puig made 16 saves in the start for SUNY Canton, while Christopher Marsillo (Lincroft, NJ) turned aside 23 shots in relief. Austin Keiser made 17 saves for the Bears.
