Four Players Reach Double Figures as Roos Explode for 96 Points in Tight Loss to Alfred



Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton men's basketball team stuck with undefeated Alfred University in a thrilling contest but couldn't quite complete the comeback falling, 100-96, Saturday afternoon at the Roos House. The win improves the Saxons to 3-0, while the loss drops the Roos to 0-4.
 
Tyler Ellison (New York, NY) had a monster day for SUNY Canton finishing with 23 points, 17 rebounds and six steals. Sam Annorh (Queens, NY) tallied 20 points, four rebounds, four assists and no turnovers in a high-tempo game. Khalid Vaughn (New York, NY) recorded 19 points, six rebounds and four assists while making a living at the charity stripe hitting on 11 of his 14 attempts. Khalil Bratton (Queens, NY) rounded out the double-digit scorers with 17 points and six rebounds.
 
Dylan Molloy led the Saxons with 25 points, 22 of which came after intermission. Thomas Tsatsis registered 20 points and eight rebounds, while Jason Ruback earned a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Mike Snyder also added 10 points in the scoring column for Alfred.

The contest was a battle back-and-forth as neither team held more than a four-point advantage in the games first 17 minutes. With the teams tied at 30 with 4:21 remaining in the opening half the Roos used a 12-0 run to open up a 42-30 lead and took a 43-35 lead into intermission.
 
The Saxons used an 8-0 spurt out of break to tie the contest at 43 apiece. Alfred opened up a 12-point lead at 72-60 midway through the second half but the Roos exploded with a 14-2 run to knot it once again at 74 apiece. Bratton had six points on the run.
 
Alfred opened up a six-point advantage at 95-89 with 2:13 remaining but a 5-0 run from SUNY Canton, which included a trey from Annorh and tip-in from Ellison to get within one. The Saxons converted on their free throws down the stretch to hang on for the 100-96 victory.
 
Alfred held advantages in points off turnovers (35-13) and bench points (57-32), while the Roos had edges in fast break points (40-24) and points in the paint (56-52). The men's basketball contest on Sunday against Vermont Tech has been postponed. The Roos will return to the hardwood December 4th at 6:00 p.m. when they travel to take on Utica College.
