Kistabish Hat Trick and Cree’s Four Assists Lead Women’s Hockey to 5-2 Win



Canton, NY – Jessica Kistabish (Pikogan, QUE) tallied her first career hat trick and added a helper while Karley Cree (Hogansburg, NY) assisted four goals as the women's hockey team used a tremendous second period to defeat visiting Buffalo State, 5-2, Friday evening at the Roos House. The win extends the Roos unbeaten streak to five games as they improve to 3-2-2, while the loss drops the Bengals to 0-6-0.

The two teams played to a scoreless first period as Buffalo State held an 11-5 shots on goal advantage. Whatever adjustments the Roo coaching staff made at the first intermission paid off as SUNY Canton outscored Buffalo State 5-1 in the second period. Just 34 seconds in Dana Morrison (Wemindji, QUE) tallied her second score of the season to give the hosts the 1-0 lead. Less than three minutes later Bernadette O'Connell (Buffalo, NY) netted her third marker of the season as Cree and Kistabish were credited with assists on the play.
 
At the 6:24 mark of the frame the Roos came through on the power play as Kistabish earned her first goal of the night and third of the season with Cree earning her third assist of the game. Midway through the stanza the Bengals went on a 5-on-3 and were able to capitalize when Nikki Kirchberger tallied her team-leading third goal of the season to get within 3-1.
 
SUNY Canton regained its three-goal advantage at the 13:33 mark when Kistabish lit the lamp for the fourth time this season beating Bengal net minder Jordan Lee. Cree and Morrison earned helpers on the play. Less than two minutes later the freshman from Pikogan, Quebec finished off the hat trick making a beautiful move to get Buffalo State goalie Sarah Quigley down and beat her top shelf. Morrison tallied an assist on the Kistabish goal.
 
SUNY Canton held an 11-8 shots on goal edge in the second period taking a 5-1 lead into the second intermission. Buffalo State added a score just 1:39 into the third period when Jeyna Minnick earned her second score of the season off a pass from Kara Goodwin. The Roos would close out the 5-2 win.
Dana Morrison finished the contest with three points on a goal and two assists.
Shayna Dominique (Mistissini, QUE) had another strong game between the pipes turning aside 28 shots on the evening. Lee made 11 saves over 33:33 for Buffalo State, while Quigley stopped nine shots in relief. The SUNY Canton penalty kill went 6-for-7 on the night, while the Roos power play group went 1-for-3.
