Roos Drop Three Matches on Day Two, Eliminated from USCAA Championships in Quarterfinals

Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team dropped the final two matches of pool play and despite making the eight-team single elimination tournament fell to the overall three seed in the quarterfinal round Saturday evening. The Roos conclude their season with a 28-9 record.
 
In its opening match of the day SUNY Canton took on Rochester. The Warriors got out to a 9-5 start in the opening set. Down 12-8, the Roos got within 19-18, but the Warriors pulled away late for the 25-19 first set victory. SUNY Canton errors hurt the team in the second set as Rochester had match point at 24-15. The Roos rattled off five consecutive points to get within 24-20 but the Warriors were able to clinch the match with a 25-20 win.
 
Jessica Reynolds (Oakville, ON) and Kelsy Cornish (Honeoye, NY) led the hosts with five and four kills, respectively. Mackenzie Mynter (Churchville, NY) dished out 13 assists and Emily Thomas (Horseheads, NY) added five digs.
 
The Roos were in a back-and-forth battle in its second match of the day. SUNY Canton took a lead in the first set but Florida College battled back to tie it at 19 all. The Falcons scored six unanswered points to claim the first set victory, 25-19. 
 
SUNY Canton opened up a 9-3 lead in the second set after back-to-back service aces by Lindsay Bryer (Wilson, NY). The Falcons used a 7-3 spurt to trail by just two at 12-10 midway through the frame. Florida would eventually take a 19-8 lead and scored six of the final eight points to claim the match, 25-20.
 
Cornish and Bills (Walworth, NY) led the Roo attack with five and four kills, respectively. Mynter assisted 14 kills in the match, but the team hit just .092 overall.
 
SUNY Canton struggled to get in a groove after advancing to the elimination round as it fell in straight sets, 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-20) to the three seed Daemen College. Bills floored a team-high six kills, while Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, ON) tallied 13 digs. Bryer and Cornish each supplied five kills, while Caitlin Grimshaw (Adams, NY) added four put downs.
