Box Score 2 (Houghton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team kept their winning streak intact as they won their first two games of the Houghton College tournament on Friday sweeping Wells College 3-0 and the University of Maine at Presque Isle 3-0.
The Roos are on quite a torrid stretch and have now won 15 straight matches while improving to 22-2 overall. A more remarkable statistic is that 13 of their 15 wins have been 3-0 sweeps and the Roos have dropped only two sets beating opponents 45-2.
SUNY Canton opened against Wells beat the Express for the second time this year winning 25-17, 25-15 and 25-19. Sophomore
Mackenzie Mynter (Churchville, N.Y.) distributed 26 assists to lead the Roos offense. Freshman
Morgan Bills (Walworth, N.Y.) and senior
Danielle Swanston (Burke, N.Y.) each pounded down seven kills to power SUNY Canton's attack. Senior
Heather Lottie (Canton, N.Y.) and sophomore
Jessica Reynolds (Oakville, Ontario) added six kills apiece and junior
Shiloh Bourgeois (Keesville, N.Y.) contributed three aces.
The Roos then dispatched the Owls 25-9, 25-13 and 25-15. Freshman
Kiana Archer (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) handed out 20 assists to pace the Roos. Senior
Abbey Shoen (Waddington, N.Y.) nailed six kills and made five service aces. Sophomore
Caitlin Grimshaw (Adams, N.Y.) chipped in with five kills and freshman
Rachel Lowther (Woodbridge, Va.) added five kills and three aces.
The Roos play two more matches on Saturday to wrap up the regular season starting with the host Highlanders at noon and then St. Lawrence University at 2 p.m. SUNY Canton will then start preparing for the USCAA national championship they're hosting Nov. 2-4 in Canton. The Roos are the third seed in the tournament.
