Roos Shut Out Paul Smith's and Johnson State

(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team ran their winning streak to four matches with commanding 3-0 wins over Paul Smith's College and Johnson State Saturday in Canton.

Saturday's matches were the first home contests for the Roos this season as they played their first 13 on the road. It was also the first matches played in SUNY Canton's new athletic facility which opened its doors this past summer.

The Roos (9-6) beat Paul Smith's College for the third time this fall winning 25-6, 25-10 and 25-9 and then topped Johnson State 25-6, 25-8 and 25-9.  Johnson State also played Paul Smith's in the tri-match and won 3-0.

"The whole team focused really well through two matches today," said head coach Carol LaMarche.

In the opening match against the Bobcats, Mackenzie Mynter (Churchville, N.Y.) distributed 23 assists and notched six aces to pace the Roos offensive attack.  Shiloh Bourgeois (Keesville, N.Y.) nailed nine kills and collected two aces.  Cassandra Gray (Watertown, N.Y.) and Amanda Brown (Massena, N.Y.) each had six kills and Heather Lottie (Canton, N.Y.) and Caitlin Grimshaw (Adams, N.Y.) had four kills apiece.

Mynter had 17 more assists in the win over the Badgers later in the day.  Abbey Shoen (Waddington, N.Y.) pounded down a team-leading seven kills.  Jessica Reynolds (Oakville, Ontario) added six kills, Brown had five, and Lottie and Grimshaw each had four.

The Roos will travel to SUNY Potsdam for a match on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. and then return home the following weekend to host Utica College and Oswego State in a tri-match on Saturday, Oct. 1.
