Cato Leads Roos to Win Over Albany Pharmacy

(Albany, N.Y.) - The SUNY Canton men's basketball team posted a 77-68 win over Albany College of Pharmacy in Albany.

The Roos improved to 5-3 overall led by junior forward Irving Cato (New York, N.Y.) filled the stat sheet on Sunday with 17 points, six rebounds, five assists, and four steals to lead the Roos.

SUNY Canton wiped out a halftime deficit with a strong spurt to start the second half reeling off a 17-4 run over the first five minutes.  The Roos generated their points from the defensive end as they forced five turnovers on five steals and produced high percentage shots converting four layups during that stretch.  Junior forward Woody Jules (Brooklyn, N.Y.) sank a pair of free throws to start the run, sophomore guards Scott Dixon (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Khalid Vaughn (New York, N.Y.) each drilled a 3-pointer and scored a layup, and Cato capped off the run with a layup of his own and the Roos went ahead by seven points.

SUNY Canton would not relinquish that lead for the remainder of the game as they continued to work the ball into the paint as they finished the game shooting 51 percent in the second half and 47 percent for the game.  The Roos also tied a season-high with seven three-point baskets.

Jules ended with 15 points and two rebounds.  Vaughn finished with 11 points and three rebounds.  Junior guard Ryan Lamica (Constable, N.Y.) had nine points, eight steals and four assists, and Dixon added eight points and five rebounds.

Albany was led by Casey Redfern who had 19 points and five rebounds.

The Roo return home to wrap up the first semester on Saturday, Dec. 10 against Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts at 1 p.m.
