(Potsdam, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton men's basketball team lost to the University of Maine at Fort Kent 74-59 Monday afternoon at Clarkson University's Alumni Gym.
The Roos scored the first five points of the game on an inside basket from
Silvon John (Bronx, N.Y.) and a 3-pointer from
Tony Valentin (Perth Amboy, N.J.). The lead was stretched to 7-1 with 15 minutes left in the opening half after
Jeff Grenier (Whitehall, N.Y.) powered his way inside for a layup.
The Bengals would eventually lead 35-21 at haltime. SUNY Canton battled Fort Kent to a near draw in the second half by shooting 41 percent from the floor. The Roos also out rebounded the Bengals 46-45 and snagged 14 offensive rebounds which they converted into six points.
John posted his third double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Valentin also scored 12 points as he knocked down 5 of 6 free throw attempts.
Scott Dixon (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added nine points and six boards and
Irving Cato (New York, N.Y.) scored eight points and hauled in seven boards for SUNY Canton (0-1 Sunrise Conference, 1-7 overall).
Kevin Loiselle led the Bengals with 25 points and 12 rebounds and Manny Odugbela added 11 points, five rebounds and four assists.
