(Worcester, Mass.)- Assumption College used a fast start to the game to claim a 5-2 win over SUNY Canton in the first round of the Assumption College Holiday Tournament in Worcester, Mass. Monday night.
The Roos, who lost to Assumption for the second time this year, dropped to 10-9 overall and will face Becker College, a 5-2 loser to Manhattanville in the other opening-round game, Wednesday in the second round. The Greyhounds won their fifth game in their last seven outings to even their mark at 5-5.
Assumption wasted no time in jumping ahead as Pat O'Kane scored just 10 seconds into the first period. O'Kane scored again three minutes later and the Greyhounds led 2-0 after one period.
The Roos trimmed the lead in half when Brad Wilson (Ottawa, Ontario) scored from
Rob Liggio (Canton, N.Y.) and
Darren Camp (Canton, N.Y.) at the 13:49 mark of the second period.
Assumption regained a two-goal advantage with 2:50 left in the second period when Taylor Larsen scored his first of two goals in the game. Larsen and Pat Fitzgibbons added goals in the third period for the final score. Larsen also had two assists.
Jimmy Merrow (Plainsboro, N.J.) had 30 saves for SUNY Canton while Nick Blanchette stopped 26 of 27 shots for Assumption.
