Cook enters her sixth year as an assistant athletic trainer during the 2024-25 academic year.
“I am thrilled to have Vanessa join our Athletic Training staff here at SUNY Canton,” Scuderi said at the time of her hiring in August 2019. “I believe Vanessa’s previous experiences will help her fit in well with our staff and greatly benefit the Roos student-athletes.”
Cook joins the Roos following graduating from Alfred University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Athletic Training in 2019. Cook most recently served as the Head Athletic Trainer for SUNY Potsdam’s summer basketball camp in July where she provided first aid and evaluated injuries.
“I am very excited to work with the athletes and coaches here at SUNY Canton,” Cook said. “The other athletic training staff has been extremely welcoming and I am looking forward to caring and providing for the Roos student-athletes in the upcoming seasons.”
The Vestal native worked with every Alfred University sport during her time as a student and interned during her senior year with the SUNY Geneseo men’s hockey team and at the Hornell Fire Department. She also spent three summers as a member of the medical staff at camps at St. Lawrence University from 2017 to 2019. Cook interned with the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey League (AHL) in the winters of 2015-16 and 2016-17 where she shadowed the head athletic trainer and was a liaison between the athletic trainer and physicians.
Cook was a member of the Athletic Training Club at Alfred University and played one season of intercollegiate soccer, while spending two seasons on the equestrian team.
