Former NHL Vice President Randy Sieminski began his tenure as SUNY Canton athletic director in August 2010 and has been employed at SUNY Canton since October 2005.
Sieminski has overseen the dramatic growth of the athletics department from nine sports to 15 and from 126 student-athletes to approximately 300. He has also guided the department through its transition to the NCAA. Some of the athletic department’s recent accomplishments include joining the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC). Prior to 2024-25, SUNY Canton was a member of the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) where the Roos won four consecutive Women's Lacrosse NAC Championships and the 2019-20 Men's Basketball NAC Championship. Those championships earned SUNY Canton NCAA Division III Tournament berths with the women's lacrosse team earning the first NCAA berth in school history in 2019.
Other highlights for the Roos under Sieminski's tenure include hosting the 2012, 2013, 2014 & 2015 USCAA Volleyball Nationals, ECAC Championship berths for men’s soccer (2012), men’s lacrosse (2013) and men's basketball (2017), numerous individual student-athlete academic and athletic awards, and many others.
Sieminski also led the college’s efforts in adding varsity esports and cheerleading to the athletic department. SUNY Canton Esports have become nationally known for their on-campus, state-of-the-art Esports Arena and remarkable growth. The program was featured on ABC’s Nightline. In less than two years, the program grew from three teams to eight teams and more than 100 students. The esports program has won several SUNYAC and ECAC Championships.

In May 2013, SUNY Canton hosted the regional Special Olympics for the first time in school history. It was a remarkably rewarding event for everyone involved, and SUNY Canton has continued to host the event annually ever since.
Since becoming athletic director, Sieminski has won the SUNY Canton President’s Meritorious Award, the college’s SAAC Appreciation Award and was honored when the college’s yearbook was recently dedicated to him. He has also served two years as the president of the Canton Chamber of Commerce and four years as president of the Canton Youth Basketball Association. He has also served as a board member on the Canton Community Fund.
Prior to joining the athletic department, Sieminski was the Director of Public Relations at SUNY Canton. During his tenure promoting the college through media/public relations, marketing and admissions, the College experienced an 86 percent increase in applications and set new enrollment records for several consecutive years. Sieminski also led the College’s branding and marketing efforts, including a re-design of the College’s website, admissions publications, and advertising campaigns. He has also served as Asst. Vice President for Advancement and Director of Admissions (2009-10).
Before returning to the North Country, Sieminski was the Vice President of Communications for the Florida Panthers and Sunrise Sports and Entertainment. During his five years in the NHL, he was promoted from Manager to Director to Vice President of the Communications Department.Â
Sieminski, a 1983 graduate of Potsdam High School and a 1987 graduate of St. Lawrence University, formerly held the position of Assistant Director of Student Activities at St. Lawrence University from 1990 to 1992. He also worked as Sports Director at WPDM radio station in Potsdam from 1993 to 1995. After leaving the North Country, he worked for three different minor league hockey teams, the South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL), the Lowell Lock Monsters (AHL), and the Roanoke Express (ECHL). He then joined the NHL's Florida Panthers.Â
Sieminski resides in Canton with his wife Mary Beth (Carvel), who is a Canton native. They have two children – Sarah and Sam.
