Melissa Cutler

Melissa Cutler was named the Head Cheerleading Coach at SUNY Canton in July 2021.
 
Cutler brings over two decades of cheerleading coaching experience to the Roos including 17 years as the Head Cheerleading Coach at SUNY Potsdam as well as nearly 20 years as the Head Cheerleading Coach at Potsdam High School.
 
“Melissa has a tremendous amount of coaching experience at all levels of cheerleading from the college ranks to high school and youth,” Athletic Director Randy Sieminski said at the time of her appointment. “Her ability working with a number of teams and her decades of coaching cheerleading in the area will be a valuable asset to our current cheerleaders, as well as prospective student-athletes.”
 
In addition to her work with the Bears and the Sandstoners, Cutler has served as head coach of the Potsdam Youth Cheerleading program since 2003, and spent five years as the cheerleading coach of the St. Lawrence Trailblazers, a semi-pro football team.
 
Cutler has served as the Section X Coaches’ Representative for cheerleading since 2003, the New York State Competitive Cheerleading Committee Representative/Coordinator since 2011 and the Section X Competitive Cheerleading Event Coordinator since 2016.
 
“I am thrilled to take over the SUNY Canton Cheerleading program and to lead these young student-athletes,” Cutler said at the time of her appointment. “I look forward to using my background and experience to help our current and incoming student-athletes develop and enhance their skills. With our return to regular sports schedules, it is an exciting time for our cheerleaders as we return to cheering at games and preparing for competition.”
 
Cutler has two boys, 12 and 15, and has 12 years of experience volunteering with her eldest son’s teams including coaching his baseball, soccer, and hockey teams as well as being his hockey team’s manager and scheduler.
