John Kennedy

John Kennedy begins his 16th year as the head coach of the men's cross country team during the 2024-25 academic year. Kennedy will also coach the women's cross country team with wife, Katie, assisting in a volunteer role. 

The Roos hosted a successful North Atlantic Conference championship in October 2022 hosting nine men's teams and eight women's teams on SUNY Canton's campus. 

Following the 2016 season Coach Kennedy was named the Association of Division III Independents Co-Coach of the Year, while freshman Anthony Fazio was named to the All-Independent Second Team and an AD3I Runner of the Week. 

In 2010, Kennedy led the Roos to the Sunrise Conference Championship and was named the conference's Coach of the Year in men's cross country. He has coached NAIA National Meet qualifiers and USCAA All-Americans Justin Richardson and Jonathan Flint.

Kennedy, who is currently the Director of Residence Life, is no stranger to SUNY Canton. He earned a one-year certificate as an automotive advisor and an Associate's degree in Business Administration from the school in 2000.
In addition to working at SUNY Canton, Kennedy has been the head track and field coach at Gouverneur Central School and an assistant coach with the Canton Central indoor track and field team.

Kennedy ran competitively in both cross country and track at SUNY Geneseo, where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He received his Master's degree in Counseling and Development from St. Lawrence University in 2004 and is certified as a New York State Provisional School Counselor.

Kennedy currently lives in Canton with his wife, Katie and daughter, Maggie.
