Canton native Jack Filiatrault was named SUNY Canton’s new Athletic Communications Assistant prior to the start of the 2026-27 academic year. He began his work duties on August 3, 2026.
As a student at SUNY Cortland, Filiatrault worked as part of the Red Dragons’ student athletic communications staff and spent this past semester interning at Division I Binghamton University with their athletics department.
Filiatrault served as a communications intern at Binghamton during the spring 2026 semester working 30+ hours weekly where he gained valuable experience in the field. He inputted statistics for multiple sports including lacrosse, basketball and tennis. Additionally, he edited game programs and media notes and shot video highlights while also capturing action shots at home contests and press conferences. During the semester he also spent time as a media correspondent for the America East Conference and filmed a playoff basketball game-winning shot with over 325,000 views across two Instagram posts.
“Jack has gained terrific experience in the industry over the last year learning from two of the best to do it in our profession at Binghamton and Cortland,” Assistant Athletic Director for Communications and Marketing Nate Hart said. “He comes in with a variety of experiences at two other SUNY institutions which will serve him well in his new role at Canton. I look forward to working with him as we continue to help promote our tremendous student-athletes.”
Filiatrault recorded and managed live statistics for Cortland women’s volleyball matches using NCAA LiveStats during his senior year, while also assisting in a variety of areas in the Cortland Athletic Communications office. He also spent time during the summer of 2025 in Germany as a ceremonies volunteer for the FISU World University Games. He has experience with SIDEARM Sports, the athletics website provider used by SUNY Canton, along with Adobe Creative Cloud and several different stats platforms.
“I am thrilled to begin my role as an Athletic Communications Assistant at SUNY Canton,” Filiatrault said. “I can’t wait to put my skills to use to support SUNY Canton Athletics. I look forward to working alongside an experienced and knowledgeable staff right here in my hometown.”
Filiatrault graduated from Cortland in May 2026 with a Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management and a concentration in sport sales and marketing, while adding a minor in computer applications. He is currently pursuing his Master’s degree in Sport Management through Cortland’s online program. He is also a graduate of Hugh C. Williams High School in Canton where he was a member of the soccer team.
