Rachel Grampp enters her first year as an assistant women's hockey coach with the Roos during the 2018-19 season.
Grampp comes to Canton following a standout career at Elmira College where she competed on the nationally-ranked women's hockey team. She was a three-sport athlete for the Soaring Eagles also competing on the women's soccer and women's lacrosse teams.
"I am tremendously excited to welcome Rachel to the SUNY Canton women's hockey family," LaBaff said. "Rachel had a tremendous hockey career at Elmira and will without a doubt carry over her passion for the game into her coaching career. She is a great role model for all of our players, and will be able to use her experiences to become a great teacher of the game. She has already been hard at work and I believe she is going to be instrumental in our team's development from the defensive zone out this season."
On the ice, the Williamsville, NY native made three NCAA Division III Final Four appearances including qualifying for the NCAA Tournament in all four seasons as a member of the Soaring Eagles hockey program. She also played in a pair of NCAA National Championship contests.
Grampp was named the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) Defender of the Year and First Team All-Conference during her senior season as well as to the UCHC All-Tournament Team. She tallied a career high 17 points on four goals and 13 assists as a senior. Grampp spearheaded a defense that led all of NCAA D-III by allowing just 1.03 goals per game, while leading the nation's fifth-best penalty-kill unit (91.2 percent).
Grampp has been named to the ECAC West and UCHC All-Academic Teams and was recently named an All-American Scholar by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA). To earn the prestigious honor from the AHCA a student-athlete must earn a 3.60 GPA or higher in both the fall and spring semesters, while competing in 40 percent of their team's contests.
"I am honored to be a part of the SUNY Canton women's hockey program and to have the opportunity to continue my hockey career from behind the bench," Grampp said. "I am looking forward to bringing my own experiences and having the chance to work with and learn from Coach LaBaff, while helping the team be as successful as possible."
Grampp graduated from Elmira in 2018 with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a minor in Criminal Justice.
