Gillian Apps is in her first season as a Volunteer Assistant Coach with the SUNY Canton women's ice hockey program.
A member of the Canadian national team program since 2001, Gillian Apps is one of the longest serving members of Canada’s National Women’s Team. She was the youngest player centralized in 2001-02 in preparation for the Salt Lake City 2002 Winter Games, but was not selected to the Olympic team.
Four years later Apps made her Olympic debut at Turin 2006, helping Canada to defend its gold medal. She was third on the Canadian team in scoring with seven goals and seven assists for 14 points and was named to the Media All-Star Team. Apps added a second Olympic gold medal at Vancouver 2010 where she recorded three goals and four assists.
Apps has appeared at eight straight IIHF Women’s World Championships, beginning with her debut in 2004 as a member of the gold medal-winning Canadian team. She would earn two more world titles in 2007 and 2012 to go with five silver medals. Apps was to have been a member of the Canadian team at the 2003 IIHF Women’s World Championship but the tournament was cancelled.
Apps played her collegiate hockey at Dartmouth College. In her senior season in 2006-07, she was a top-10 finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award as the top female player in NCAA hockey and was a Second Team NCAA All-American. She went on to play for the Brampton Thunder of the CWHL, helping the team win the league championship in 2007-08.
