Former North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Player of the Year Danny Christy is in his second season as an assistant coach with the SUNY Canton men's and women's golf programs during the 2022-23 academic year. He also serves as the Assistant Golf Professional at Partridge Run Golf & Country Club in the village of Canton.
Christy, a Canton native, was a four-year member of the SUNY Delhi men’s golf team leading the team to back-to-back NAC championships in Fall 2019 and Spring 2021. In 2018 SUNY Delhi finished in second place at the NAC championship with
Christy capturing medalist honors and Player of the Year recognition after shooting a two-day total of 148 (75-73).
“Having known Danny for many years I was already aware of his playing abilities, work ethic and knew that he would have great success working with our men and women’s programs,” Head Coach Mark Bickelhaupt said at the time of his hiring. “The game of golf is certainly about working to improve to be able to record the lowest score possible and Danny will absolutely help our men and women in that regard.”
Christy also
tied for second at the 2019 NAC championship with a score of 147 (73-74). In 2021 he
tied for fifth (83) helping the Broncos to their second consecutive conference title.
Christy tied for fifth individually at the 2019 United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Championship. He helped the team capture the USCAA National Invitational Championship in 2021 and record second place finishes in 2018 and 2019. He is a three-time USCAA All-American (two First team, one Second Team) and three-time USCAA All-Academic Team recipient.
“I am excited to have the opportunity to work with college golfers who I can relate closely with having just graduated,” Christy said when he was hired. “I am looking forward to helping both team’s student-athletes improve their games on the course, while also showing them the importance of excelling in the classroom.”
Christy has also won numerous NAC and USCAA Golfer of the Week honors as well as winning multiple individual invitational titles.
Christy was a standout golfer for the Canton Golden Bears where he was the medalist at the Section X championship during his junior year, First Team All Northern Athletic Conference (NAC) all four years, and qualified for the state championship three times.
Christy will graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Business and Professional Golf Management (BBA) from SUNY Delhi in 2021.
