Liz McGinley enters her third season as the Head Softball Coach at SUNY Canton during the 2017-18 academic year.
McGinley led the Roos to a school record 24 wins during just her second season at the helm in 2017 including the program's first berth in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Tournament.
During her first season with the Roos in 2016 McGinley matched the previous season’s wins total (11) despite SUNY Canton playing in eight less contests. Coach McGinley saw one player named an ECAC All-Star (Chloe Solomon – 2nd Team), two USCAA All-Americans (Shannon Dowling – 2nd Team, Rhea Coad – Honorable Mention) and three student-athletes named NFCA Scholar Athletes (Chloe Solomon, Rachel Thornhill, Raechel Yost).
McGinley came to SUNY Canton from St. Lawrence University where she served as the Assistant Softball Coach for the past two seasons.
A native of Canastota, NY, she was a solid contributor for the Saints softball team in her four years. At the end of her freshman season she was recognized as the Liberty League First Team All-Conference designated player for her efforts at the plate. In her junior and senior seasons she earned Liberty League 2nd Team All-Conference honors as a pitcher and infielder.
As a coach with the Saints McGinley worked specifically with the pitching and catching staff as well as the infield. In 2014 she coached five all-conference players including one NFCA All-Region selection (third team outfielder). In 2015 McGinley coached five all-conference players including Liberty League Pitcher of the Year and NFCA All-Region selection, Kyle Plimpton (second team pitcher). St. Lawrence was regionally ranked #9 during the week of April 24th, 2015 for the first time in over 10 years. In addition to her success assisting the Saints on the diamond 10 student-athletes were also named NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes over two seasons.
As a player McGinley started all 39 games as a senior and led the team in doubles (8), tied for second in RBIs (14) that included a 4 RBI game v. SUNY Potsdam. The Canastota native was also second in the team in walks (12) as the team surpassed the old wins in a season record. On the mound she tossed 325.3 innings (2nd in program history), which included 27 wins (2nd in program history), eight shutouts (2nd in program history) and 37 complete games (3rd in program history).
McGinley studied History and Psychology at St. Lawrence and was a two-time Liberty League All-Academic team member in addition to earning Dean's List honors. She was recognized as a NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete her senior year.
