Edward Malinoski, Jr.

Edward Malinoski, Jr., a 2019 SUNY Canton graduate, enters his second season as an assistant men's soccer coach and a volunteer assistant baseball coach during the 2020-21 academic year.

“Junior had a fantastic four years as a student-athlete, and we look forward to having him bring that experience to the sideline to help us make a return run to the conference finals this fall,” Penrod said at the time of his hiring. “As one of our most consistent goal scoring threats over the last four years, Junior will be able to help our attack a great deal. Even better, as a dual-sport student-athlete, he can help our guys understand what it takes to be successful both on the field and in the classroom.”

Over his four years, Malinoski appeared in 72 matches, scoring 29 goals and assisting on 10 others. His on-field accolades include the 2016 Association of Division III Independents First Team, the 2017 American Collegiate Athletic Association Second Team, and the 2018 North Atlantic Conference Second Team. In 2017, Malinoski was recognized as an ACAA All-Academic Team member, as well as the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-East Region Second Team.

In addition to his time on the pitch, Malinoski was a four-year member of the Roos baseball team.

“I would like to thank the SUNY Canton Athletics department and Coach Penrod for giving me the opportunity to be a part of the 2019 men’s soccer staff,” Malinoski said. “I am excited to take my experiences as a player and turn it into coaching knowledge. I look forward to working with Coach Penrod and Coach Millward, as well as former teammates and the new members of the men’s soccer program.”

Malinoski’s responsibilities will include day-to-day operations, practice planning, and specifically working with the teams attacking players. He will also take on significant responsibilities regarding the team’s in-season recruiting schedule.

“I am delighted to have someone like Junior look to start his career in coaching with us,” Penrod added. “I believe his enthusiasm and desire to coach will be tremendous assets to us, and he will play a major role in our success this fall.”
