Rivera is in his 10th year as an assistant coach with the SUNY Canton baseball program during the 2023 season, his second stint with the Roos. He previously assisted SUNY Canton through the 2018-19 academic year.

Rivera was inducted into the Puerto Rico Hall of Fame on April 12th, 2018. 

Rivera along with Coach Carbone were key to the creation of the inaugural Clemente Cup in Puerto Rico to open the 2016 season, a tournament named after the late Roberto Clemente. 

Rivera has worked with Major League Baseball’s Urban Baseball Academy Camp and has conducted clinics throughout the United States with former major league players. The Naguabo, Puerto Rico native has also worked with the Roberto Clemente Foundation, served as the spokesman for Major League Baseball’s RBI program, and served as a special advisor to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Rivera served over 32 years in the United States Army and retired as a Command Sergeant Major. His final assignment was with the United States Army Accessions Command as the Army Hispanic Outreach Program Spokesman. His duties included delivering motivational speeches and coaching and mentoring young men and women on future education and career progression.

Rivera earned his bachelor’s degree from Thomas Edison University.
