Lyndon, VT – Freshman Marley Sharkey netted the first two goals of her career Sunday afternoon as the SUNY Canton women's soccer team earned a win over VTSU Lyndon, 2-0. Hailey Hassos and Reese Durant both tallied assists in the team's victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Sharkey put the Roos on the board at the 41-minute mark with a shot that lifted over the goalkeeper's outstretched arms into the top right of the goal, as Sharkey found the back of the net for the first time in her career. Hassos provided the assist, earning her first career point.
• The first half ended with a 1-0 SUNY Canton lead. The Roos outshot the Hornets 7-1 through the game's first 45 minutes.
• Canton sustained their pressure on Lyndon's defense coming out of intermission as the Roos strung together six shots within the first 20 minutes of play.
• Sharkey found her second score of the game with 66:26 on the clock as Hassos slid a through ball across the top of the six-yard box, finding the foot of Sharkey for a goal into the bottom center of the net. Durant diligently carried the ball down the sideline before sending a pass to Hassos, earning the secondary assist.
• The Roos defense continued to stand tall as the clock ticked away, allowing zero shots for the remainder of the match as Canton closed out Lyndon in a 2-0 victory.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Sharkey earned the first two goals of her career on Sunday. Hassos tallied two assists for her first career points. Durant contributed one assist, also a career first, and one shot on goal. Sydney Hoefer added three shots on goal.
• The Roos recorded 14 shots on goal to Lyndon's one. Canton topped the Hornets in corner kicks, 10-0.
• The Roos defense has allowed just one shot on goal in their past two matchups against Lyndon, outscoring the Hornets 11-0 in the process (10/29/25-9/27/2026).
• Nicole Morrow earned her second shutout of the season between the pipes.
