Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's soccer program has announced three new additions to the coaching staff in Shannon Platt, Kamryn Barnes and Jon Bovair ahead of the start of their 2026 season.
 
"We've added three quality coaches to round out our staff, in addition to returning Mark Martin," Head Coach Milograno said about his crew. "I wanted to provide our athletes with support in all levels, including bringing back a strong contributor to our program during the last two years in Shannon Platt, a former dual sport athlete at Canton and soon to be mental performance consultant in Kamryn Barnes, and a dedicated goalkeeper coach in Jon Bovair who can work with our goalkeeper union in a more focused manner."
 
Platt was a four-year member of the Roos soccer team graduating in May 2026 with a Bachelor's degree in Health Care Management. The Rochester, NY native appeared in 65 career games at Canton making 50 starts tallying seven points on three goals and one assist while placing 10 of her 27 shot attempts on target in over 4,300 minutes of action. She posted at least one point in all four of her seasons and was a member of the SUNYAC Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll.
 
"Shannon Platt returns to our program, now on the other side of the touchline, bringing her leadership and soccer IQ to help guide and support both her former teammates and incoming freshmen," Milograno said. "I'm excited for the energy and work she will bring to our program, both on the field and on the recruiting trail. She has been a part of the new culture and foundation we are building here and will continue to help lay that foundation in the recruiting classes of 2027 and beyond."

Barnes, who will specialize in mental performance, was a multi-sport athlete for the Roos competing in one year of soccer and three years of hockey. During her lone season with the soccer team, she finished second on the team in scoring with two goals and two assists logging 16 shots on goal in more than 1,300 minutes of action.
 
On the ice she appeared in 59 career contests tallying 11 points on three goals and eight assists. Her numerous awards for academics included spots on the SUNYAC Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll, College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District and a Krampade AHCA All American Scholar.
 
"Kamryn Barnes is another exciting hire for this fall, as she comes back to the program she helped contribute to during my first season," Milograno noted. "Kam had always discussed an interest in Sport Psychology, so when she reached out to come back to Canton in a mental performance role, I was all for it. Bringing Kam in, to both help her complete her degree, and provide our program with an incredibly valuable toolkit of mental skills was a no-brainer. The fact that she knows our program and culture and is a great person and coach is an added bonus. I am ecstatic to build important mental skills with our group, and excited to see the level we are able to reach with this training."

Bovair, who will specialize in working with the goalkeepers for both the SUNY Canton women's and men's soccer programs, played one season of soccer for the Roos. He made four starts over six appearances registering a .667 save % and 2.68 goals against average earning one win (a shutout) in over 400 minutes of action. He recorded a four save clean sheet in a 2-1 road win at Keuka (9/24/25) for his first collegiate win.
 
Prior to Canton Bovair was a two-year member of the Cortland soccer team where they won two SUNYAC championships as well as a two-year member of the Herkimer Community College soccer team in two championship winning seasons.
 
"I've coached Jon through his high school and college career through my goalkeeping academy, and during my tenure at Cortland, and he has a strong understanding of what type of goalkeeper I am looking to have lead our team," Milograno said. "His years of work in training his craft as a goalkeeper has already paid off in his goalkeeper coaching, and he brings another level to the group. I am confident in his ability to work with and support the development of our goalkeepers."
 
"I learned what championship culture looked like as an athlete," Bovair said. "I now have an opportunity to create it as a coach."
 
The SUNY Canton women's soccer team opens the regular season on Tuesday, September 1st when they host SUNY Poly at 4 p.m.
